Blackjack - A Classic Casino Game

For anyone looking for a game that is both simple and exciting, blackjack seems the natural choice. Also known as Pontoon or Vignt Un, this is a popular game at traditional casinos as well as at online casino sites. There are many versions of blackjack, although the basic game comprises of the same idea - for the player to reach as close to the number 21 as possible, without going over that amount.

Blackjack is played against the dealer and the other players at the table are of no importance to the outcome of the player's hand. It is important to note that because of the differing rules and regulations between casinos, and the variants of the game of blackjack, players should take time to read the instructions of each game carefully before playing for real money.

How to Play Blackjack

The Basics

Blackjack can be played with one, two, four, six or eight decks of cards.

Players need to get as close to the number 21 as possible, by beating the dealer's hand and not going over this sum.

Bets are placed before the game begins.

The value of the dealt cards are added to reach 21 or nearest.

The skill of blackjack lies in the ability of the player to choose whether to be dealt another card to get nearer to 21, or to stand with what he has.

Card Values

The suits in blackjack are of no consequence. Face cards (ie. King, Queen and Jack) have a value of 10, while the cards ranging from 2-10 have face value. Aces are either valued at 1 or 11, depending on the hands being played. A hand that does not have an Ace or where the Ace is counted as one is known as a hard hand, while a hand that consists of an Ace that counts as 11 is known as a soft hand.

The Beginnings of a Blackjack Game

Players begin a game of blackjack by finding a suitable table. Blackjack tables traditionally seat six people. Important things to look out for at a suitable blackjack table include minimum and maximum wagers, deck sizes and variant rules.

Bets are placed in a special area on the blackjack table.

Once the bets are placed, each player is dealt two cards and then the dealer takes two cards for himself. In most variants of blackjack, the player has one card facing up and one card facing down.

If a player believes that the dealer has been dealt a blackjack (21), he can take out an insurance bet at this point in the game. All bets will be cleared and the player will be paid out 2:1 if the dealer has been dealt a blackjack. If not, the player loses the insurance bet.

In most cases, players are dealt cards face up and should thus not handle the cards.

Once players see their two cards, they are faced with the decision of how to proceed in the game. Herein lies the skill element of blackjack: To take more cards to reach the number 21 and risk going 'bust' (ie. going over that sum) or to stay with what they have been dealt and hope to win with that amount.

The Options Available to Blackjack Players

The following are the choices available to blackjack players at this stage of the game:

Players can Choose to 'Hit': This is when players choose to ask the dealer for another card as they think they can advance further towards 21 without going bust. This is obviously a risk but most players understand the calculated risks within a game of blackjack, based on strategies and statistics. Of course, if a player goes over 21 after being hit, he goes bust.

Players can Choose to 'Stand': When a player is happy with the cards that have been dealt and does not wish to risk being dealt any more cards, he can choose to stand. This means that these are the player's final cards in the game.

Players can Choose to ' Split Pairs': If players are dealt a pair in the first round, these can be split into two separate hands and another bet, equal to the first, is placed. While various rules pertain to different versions of blackjack, the basic understanding is that hands can only be split once and that only cards of the same denomination can be split (ie. not a queen and a 10, for example).

Players can Choose to 'Double Down': If players are in a strong position in the game, they can opt to double their original bet. In return for this right, players are only entitled to one more card. Casinos have varying rules on the doubling down choice.

New Online Casino Games Review

Recently the pace of quantitative growth of online casinos is slowing down, which is due to the satiety of the market and new anti-gaming laws. At the moment casinos try to attract clients by improving service and increasing the amount and quality of games. For instance, online casinos software company "Microgaming" has been adding four games every month for the last two years. The company "CryptoLogic" develops service packs with about ten games every several months. New games appear in PlayTech and RTG casinos. Certainly, the leadership among new games belongs to various slots, mainly video-slots with a great number of lines, bonuses or simply with new graphics. However, ordinary table games (card games against the dealer) are being developed as well. Let's look closer at the latest innovations in the online casinos.

Let's start with the solitaire. Yeah, it is old good "Klondike" that firmly occupies its place in the standard set of Windows games. Now the CryptoLogic casino also has this game, but it is called "Solitaire". I will not retell the rules of the game - if you do not know them, launch the game and see by yourself. If you want to train in the very casino version, install parameters "deal cards one by one" and "account for money" and you will receive a clear idea of what you will encounter in the casino. In the beginning of the game, you stake from 1,04 to 52 USD (52 USD are embedded also in Windows Solitaire) and you will receive from 10 cents to 5 USD for each card, put in its proper place. So if Solitaire is completed, you win five times more than the initial stake. But even if Solitaire is not being completed, you receive some money back. As you see, if you place 11 cards, you will be in pocket. Unfortunately, the analysis of the game is too complicated and information about expectation is not available yet.

The fantastic popularity of the online poker club preconditioned the appearance of following games in the casino. First, the game Casino Holdem was developed, which is now available in casinos RTG, PlayTech and CryptoLogic; a little later there appeared Tequila Poker (PlayTech).

So, the Casino Holdem is the game that really resembles the holdem-poker. At first players must stake the ante, then the player and the dealer take two hole cards and at once the flop is dealt. The flop means three open board cards (one pack with 52 cards is used). Looking at five cards (hole and flop), players must make the decision whether they will continue the game or not. If the game continues, the player stakes the blind in amount of two ante, otherwise he discards and loses the ante. If the game continues, the dealer deals two cards more - turn and river - and showdowns. The combinations of the player and dealer are compared according to rules of the Texas Holdem - the higher poker combination, formed by five cards, wins (it is possible to use from 0 up to 2 hole cards and from 3 up to 5 board cards). Like in the Oasis-Poker, the dealer can have "no game". If the dealer has less that pair of fours, the player receives winning in the amount of ante, but not only one ante, but in accordance with the winning table, where winning varies from 1 ante for straight and lower up to 100 ante for royal-flesh (the main blind returns to the player). If the dealer has the game and his combination is higher, all blinds of the player are lost. If combinations are equal, the winner is determined by the seniority of cards remaining. If the dealer has the game and his combination is lower, the player receives payments on ante in accordance with table and on the main stake as 1 to 1.

Depending on table of payments, the advantage of casino in the game makes up near 2%. Taking into account the variety of possible combinations, it is practically impossible to develop the optimal strategy. However, one can roughly say that the player must play about 82% of dealings. The player should discard, if he has two small unpaired cards, does not comply with the flop and he can't hope on the straight/flash.

Blacklisted and Rogue Casinos

As of late we have seen one well known Online Casino and Poker Room gain themselves quite an unfavorable reputation amongst the online gambling webmasters. This once reputable Online Casino and Poker Room now ranks number 1 on the internet for Blacklisted Casinos and Rogue Casinos.

When an Online Casino or Poker Room allows not only themselves but also their affiliates to participate in illegal activities on the internet their reputation then becomes questionable. This Online Casino and Poker Room has lost popularity of having an Alexa.com ranking of around 300 to a ranking of over 4800 all within a period of six weeks.

This once reputable Online Casino and Poker Room has no intention at this time of stopping their affiliates or themselves from conducting illegal activities. These illegal activities range from stealing other online gambling webmasters content to spamming which is totally illegal on the internet.

I had once thought to be an affiliate with them, but I will not be affiliated with a Casino Affiliate program that refuses to deal with problems that are not only illegal but also unethical. This once prestigious Online Casino and Poker Room doesn't even have a policy on spamming or other illicit activities.

When I have came across their spamming on the internet, this is when I become quite concerned about the damage they are doing not only to their reputation but also to the reputability of online gambling on a whole. They have totally disregarded what is happening in the United States with the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act and the effect if passed it will have on the online gambling industry as a whole.

What also bothers me is the spamming they allow is also hurting those online gambling webmasters who have worked hard with their websites to get a first page ranking with the search engines. When I see their affiliate websites come up for search terms that are not relevant at all to their websites it definitely bothers me.

Redirects also is something I found which was happening with one of their affiliates, not even to have the supposed website domain open first without redirecting to their affiliate webpage. Rather unscrupulous practice to have a website with eighteen pages with no information to all redirect to the same affiliate website. This affiliate had six different websites that all redirected the same way and had first page ranking with the Search Engines.

For all of these activities this Online Casino and Poker Room have allowed their affiliates and themselves to do have ended up with them being the Number 1 Blacklisted and Rogue Casino on the internet. This is not their only problem or dilemma they have to face, they will also have to deal with their shareholders at one point as they are publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange.

Overall I believe that we all create our own dilemma in life and it is definite that this Online Casino and Poker Room has done that to themselves. When big corporations like this believe they are above playing by the rules of the internet they better think different, they are not. Whether you are a small business or a big corporation on the internet, we all have to play by the same set of rules and regulations.
